Welcome back runners! We have a fresh new podcast out this week, and the return of our guy, Contributor David Salas, to the table to talk super shoes with Chief Editor Matt Klein.

2021 has delivered exactly what we all wanted: a ridiculous amount of super shoes. We have our favorites though and go through a bunch of our top picks for the year.

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2
The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2 returns as a competitive racing shoe for those that want a soft ride, lateral bias at the rearfoot, a responsive toe off and a little more room up top.

Asics METASPEED Sky Multiple Tester Review

The ASICS METASPEED Sky is a max cushion, slightly higher volume, unique long distance racing shoe. A new and full length Flytefoam Turbo midsole provides a ton of cushioning that responds the more you push it. Stabilized very well with a carbon fiber plate, the shoe is designed for those with longer strides (ie a more hip based movement strategy) who land farther forward on their foot and want a ton of cushioning with a bit more room in the upper.

Hoka One One Carbon X 2 Multiple Tester Review
The Hoka One One Carbon X 2 is an ultra distance racing shoe that will work for many people as a marathon racer, others for its intended purpose and many will find it as a great lightweight trainer.

Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% Review
The shoe offers more cushioning, a carbon fiber plate known as Flyplate, and 2 Air Zoom pods in the forefoot. The shoe feels very unique and responds well to high force exerted on it.

Nike Vaporfly Next%
The Nike Vaporfly Next% is a shoe for serious marathon and road racers looking for that additional edge.  The additional midsole material, added outsole material, wider base, new upper, lower drop and improved stability make this shoe better in every way with almost no weight change.

New Balance FuelCell RC Elite 2 Multiple Tester Review
The New Balance FuelCell RC Elite v2 is a very soft, highly cushioned, high stack height marathon racing shoe. A wider, slightly short and stretching upper provides a secure fit. The FuelCell midsole is incredibly soft and abundant.

On Cloudboom Review
The Cloudboom is highly responsive and runs very fluid at competitive long distance paces. The shoe is a little more firm than many other distance racers on the market and might be more favorable for those who do not like overly soft foams.

Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Multiple Tester Review
The shoe provides a really soft, bouncy, and responsive ride without feeling unstable. The shoe also features a carbon fiber plate that feels a little bit more flexible through the forefoot than some of the other companies in the industry. The midsole is a nitrogen infused PEBA based midsole and is the closest thing that I have personally felt to Zoom X without being overly soft.

Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 Review
The Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 returns with upper updates to create a more secure ride in the heel and midfoot. The S-shaped carbon plate, Speed Roll and PWRRUN PB continue on, keeping the efficient and rolling ride going.

Hoka One One Rocket X
The HOKA Rocket X is one of the new wave high stack carbon plated distance racing shoes. The shoe features an interesting design with a really soft foam coupled with a really stiff carbon fiber plate and a rocker design.
